Elizabeth (Betty) Hurd, born Nov. 22 1922, died Oct. 20 2008 age 85. Preceded in death by husband Ray, daughters Geraldine DiCostanzo and Kathleen Kay. Survived by sons Robert (Rita), William (Sophie) and daughter Patricia Johnson, seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Graduated from Eatonville High School and married Ray Hurd in 1941. A resident of Fircrest since 1950, she devoted her life to her family and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. A founding member of St. Charles, she ministered in the altar society, rosary group and funeral reception committee. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and the St. Charles parish family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nativity House of Tacoma. Rosary will be prayed for Betty on Sunday Oct. 26 at 7:00 PM at St. Charles. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday Oct. 27 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles followed by a reception and graveside service at Mountain View Memorial Park. George C. Sanford Jan 24, 1920 – Oct 18, 2008 George Sanford passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord with his loving son Ken by his side. He was welcomed into heaven by his wife Ruby and eldest son Larry. George was born in Ayr, Nebraska. He was one of six children. He is survived by his brother Dale of Hastings NE. Son Ken (MerriJane) Sanford of Tacoma and daughter Debra Strand of Everett; grandchildren, Amy, Hadley, Kenny Jr. (Kelly), Matthew, Austin and Antaeus; great grandchildren, Micah, Christopher, Kenny III and Cody. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII. George retired from pipeline construction in 1993 after more than 40 years as an operating engineer. George’s first love was his family, and his second was farming – raising animals and vegetables. He was a strong, silent, and steady man who gave his word with a handshake. Viewing will be at Mountain View Funeral Home Friday 1-9pm and Saturday. Darrell W. Smith made his journey home to the Lord October 22nd, where his parents, sisters and brothers awaited him. Born Feb. 3, 1936 in Pittsville, MO to Henry and Irene Smith, and went on to spend his youth in Yakima, WA. He proudly served his country as a Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps and then made his home in Lakewood, WA. He is survived by his son Jeff, grandsons, numerous loving family members and friends, and “HIS BOYS” Oscar and Buddy. Services will be held Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 3pm, Mountain View Valley Chapel in Lakewood, with reception to follow.
