The Steilacoom High School Football team, along with members of the Steilacoom School District will honor one of Steilacoom‚Äôs finest football alumni at a ceremony Friday night, October 24.
Cody Balogh was a member of the SHS graduating class of 2004. During his time here Cody embodied what it meant to be a successful student and athlete.
In the Fall of 2002 as a Junior, Cody was elected a first-team all-league Nisqually offensive and defensive lineman. It was during this same season that Cody was a member of the 10-1 Steilacoom team that finished the year as Nisqually league Champions and reached the Quarterfinals of the WIAA State Football Tournament.
During his senior season of 2003, Cody was again elected a first-team all-league Nisqually offensive and defensive lineman. The 2003 Sentinel Football squad also won the Nisqually league Championship and reached the WIAA Quarterfinals yet again, finishing the season with a 10-2 record. When the season ended, Cody was announced as a member of the 2003 First Team All-State squad as selected by The News Tribune. He was also invited to participate in the All-State Football game the following spring.
Cody was also a two year starter on the Steilacoom basketball team. At one point during the season, the Sentinels were ranked as high as #2 in the state polls.
During his final years at Steilacoom Cody received interest from numerous national football programs, including the University of Washington, Oregon State University, Harvard University, and the University of Montana.
Cody graduated from Steilacoom High School in June 2004 with a 3.656 GPA and accepted a full-ride scholarship offer to play football for the Montana Grizzlies.
During his freshman season at Montana, Cody actually earned a starting position on the offensive line during the final three games of the 2004 season, including the quarterfinal, semifinal and Division 1-AA Championship Game which Montana lost, 31-21, to James Madison University.
As a sophomore Cody started all 12 games for Montana. The Grizzlies made the NCAA Tournament, but fell in the first round that season.
During his Junior season, Cody started all 14 games at left tackle for the Grizzlies. That season Montana won the Big Sky Championship, finished the regular season with a 10-1 record, and played in the Division 1-AA National Semifinals. At the end of his Junior year, Cody was named a First-Team All-Big Sky Selection at offensive tackle, as well as a 3rd team All-American.
His final season at Montana in 2007, Cody again was named a starter for all 12 games, along with being chosen as a team Captain. Montana finished that season 11-0 in league play and won the Big Sky Conference Championship. Cody was named an Honorable-Mention All-Big Sky Offensive Lineman, as well as given the prestigious Paul Weskamp Award which is given annually to the University of Montana‚Äôs top offensive lineman.
Cody was a four year letterwinner at the University of Montana where he started the final 41 games of his career. Following his senior season, Cody pursued a career in the National Football League.
In the Spring of 2008, Cody signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears of the NFL. He was able to participate in numerous pre-season NFL games including one in front of his many friends and family at Qwest Field in Seattle. Cody is currently playing for the Chicago Bears in the NFL.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please join us as we honor Cody Balogh, Steilacoom High School class of 2004. Cody‚Äôs jersey is going to be retired from Steilacoom Football following this season.Print This Post
