Join millions of Americans this Saturday, October 25th doing volunteer projects to improve their communities and help their neighbors in need. This annual event is the largest community service effort in the nation. The City of Lakewood Youth Council is coordinating projects throughout Lakewood in celebration of this event.
Projects include: Park beautification (planting daffodil & tulip bulbs) at Washington Park. Park cleanup, planting Garry Oaks & other native plants and replacing cemetery markers at Fort Steilacoom Park. Flett Creek Blueberry Farm (behind Lochburn Middle School), spreading wood chips and weed fabric and removing invasive plants. Putting together ‘goody bags’ at Communities in Schools (6402 100th Street) for an event later in the day.
A Kick-Off event will be held at City Hall beginning at 8:30am, projects will begin at 9am. The event will conclude at noon. Call 253-589-2489 to find out how you can get involved. Participation qualifies as community service hours for Clover Park School District students.
