Mildred (Betty) Hinz Betty was born on June 6, 1934 in Miles City, Mont. and passed away on Oct. 11, 2008, surrounded by her family. As a young child she moved to Tacoma and it was there she met her husband Stu and they raised their family. After her children were grown she went back to school. She got her GEDEand continued her education at UPSEearning a degree in Criminal Justice. She worked for Progress House and Purdy Women’s Prison until her retirement in 1985. Upon their retirement, mom and dad spent their time traveling the country in their RV. She loved NASCAR races, the Arizona sun and her kitties. Her favorite times were being with her family on the holidays. Betty is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stuart Hinz, sister PattyE(Gary) Dennett and 4 daughters, Susan (Rick) McAbee, Joyce (MIke) Erickson, Barbara Franich, and Teresa (Keith) Stringham. Having also brought much joy to her life are her 9 grandchildren Michelle, Jennifer, Julieut, Amy, Scott, Marea, Antone, Austin, and Tanner. Her happiness also included 6 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Cassidy, Caitlyn, Johannah, Jillian and Tyson. She was also survived by her special niece Linda (Ross) Bell and her daughters Stephanie and Tawni. The funeral service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park- Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA. on Friday Oct. 17, at 12:00. Viewing will be Thursday, Oct. 16th. In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to Franciscan Hospice P.O. Box 1502 Tacoma, WA 98401, as they provided wonderful care for mom and support for our family.
William Jacob Lieby, 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on October 12, 2008. Born in Thompson Falls, Montana and was a resident of the Tacoma area since 1920. He served in the US Navy and Merchant Marines during World War II as a Lt (JG). He retired after 35 years of service as Paint Supervisor for Tacoma Power. He was a member of the Horace W. Tyler Masonic Lodge #290, F. & A. M.; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; Afifi Shrine; Afifi Greeters; Mt. Tacoma Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters; Fraternal Order of Eagles of Puyallup and V.F.W. Post 2224. Besides his wife, Beatrice of 42 years, survivors include sons, William K. and Kevin Lieby of Tacoma. Daughter Georgine of Tacoma. Step son Douglas DeRousseau of Tacoma. 4 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Jerome of Colorado Springs, CO. Marcelina del Rosario Andrade Olsen was born April 21, 1924 in Aparri Cagayan Philippines. She is the daughter of Silvino del Rosario and Rufina Paat. On October 13, 2008, Marcelina fell asleep and went to heaven. She is survived by her husband Edwin D. Olsen, nine children Erly (Linda), Lucy, Orlan, Armin (Mercy), Myrna, Vangie, Larry, Olive, Mel, 28 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Marcelina loved life and lived it to its fullest. She loved being with and taking care of family and friends. Her one great passion was her volunteer work. She volunteered for almost 20 years as the unofficial hostess of the Lighthouse Senior Center and KWA. She loved doing things and helping people. She especially enjoyed dancing, playing bingo and wearing nice clothes. Her main passion was her family, taking care of them and doing things with them. Viewing will be held from 1:00-9:00 Tuesday, October 14, 2008 and from 9:00-9:00 Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Mountain View Funeral Home. Sarah Goodman Beck – 101 August 30, 1907 – October 4, 2008 Sarah was born in Blaine, Washington to Icelandic immigrants Sigurd H. and Jennie R. Goodman. She graduated from Bellingham’s Fairhaven High in 1926. As captain of the basketball team she helped to win the championship in her senior year. She attended Bellingham Normal (Western Washington State University), then worked in Seattle before starting her family. Sarah loved people and loved to travel. She made lifelong friends wherever she went. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and traveled to Iceland twice, where she connected with six cousins and most of their descendants. Sarah was preceded by her husband, James M. Beck, her parents, brothers Marcus and Eugene Goodman, sisters Pauline Hedman and Salome Citrak. She is survived by a brother, John Robert Goodman (Dorothy), of Everson, WA, a sister, Alice Donohue (Norris), of North Bend, WA, her sons Eugene Pritchett of Tacoma and James Pritchett (Maryse) of Olympia, their children and grandchildren, Jennifer, Bryan (Karen), Elizabeth and Sabrina, her daughter, Sally Ingle (Rick), of Lakewood, and their children and grandchildren Tanya, Jake, Steve (Stevelle), Kim, Andy, Rob and Richie, as well as close friends Kris and Marty. Special thanks to her caregivers Monica Hoffman and Tanya Barstad. Thanks also to all the people from Franciscan Hospice. The memorial service will be at 1:00 PMESaturday, October 25, 2008 at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood. Shane A. Flammang Shane was born December 13, 1965 and passed away on October 10, 2008 surrounded by his family who always loved and supported him. Shane is survived by parents Wes & Elaine, sisters Sjan (Dan) and Dawn; nephew Justin; nieces Julie, Hannah and Taylor. Shane was loved very much and will be missed dearly by family and friends. Kathleen Anne Buckner Kathy was born on Oct. 7th, 1947, to Tess and Jack Butler, in Bremerhaven, Germany. She passed away suddenly on Oct. 9th, 2008. She spent most of her young life traveling all over the world with her mother and daddy in the military. As an adult, Kathy met and married William (Buck); they spent nearly 26 years together caring for and loving their family. She is survived by her loving husband William, dedicated mother Tess Butler, 3 daughters, Karen Buckner, Christy (Bert) Sawyers, and Jacque (Gary) Winner, and Heather Anne Kirk, her only grandchild. We had a great life together because of her unselfishness and always putting everyone else ahead of her. She will be missed by all. Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA. A graveside service will follow.
Sharon Lee Henderson A lifetime resident of Tacoma, Sharon, surrounded by her family, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2008. She was born in Tacoma on July 17, 1941, to Ivan and Garnett Ward. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1959, she married Gerald “Jerry” Henderson, her loving husband of 49 years. Sharon would always say she had the best of both worlds, being able to stay home and raise her children before she began her career in Food Services for Multi-Care Medical Services. She retired in 2003 after 29 years at Multi-Care. Sharon is survived by her sister Arlene, her husband of 49 years, Jerry, two children: Michael of Tacoma, WA and Carie (Ken) McNamee of Ellensburg, WA; six grandchildren: Cori (Rich), Jessica, Nick, Sarah, Kasey, and Matthew; two great-grandchildren: Ryin and Rich. Sharon loved spending time with her family, sewing, and fishing and clam digging with Jerry. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church, where she loved and enjoyed her church family. Sharon had a gift to always see the good in everyone she met, and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Viewing will be from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Mountain View Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church, 8401 112th Street E., Puyallup. Jacquelynn Marie (Sorrensen) Thurman – Jackie resided in Mill Creek, Washington. She was born on January 25, 1932 in Longview, WA. Jackie went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on October 6, 2008 in Tacoma, WA. Jackie grew up in the Kelso-Longview area and attended R.A Long High School where she graduated in 1950. On November 12, 1965, she married Home Improvement Industry Pioneer Stan Thurman. They moved to Bellevue in 1969 when they moved Pay ON Pak headquarters to Kent, WA. After Stan’s retirement in 1995 they moved to Mill Creek, WA. Jackie’s passions in life were God, her family, politics, gardening and golf. She was a pillar of strength. She was instrumental in supporting Stan throughout all of his business endeavors. She was a knowledgeable investor and personally met political leaders including Presidents and Governors. She and Stan travelled the world before wintering many years in Indian Wells, CA where they spent much time golfing. Everywhere she went Jackie would touch the lives of those around her. She attended Canyon Hills Community Church in Bothell, WA. Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Stanley Thurman. She is survived by her brother Ron Lindsey of Castle Rock, WA; her children Jed Jennings (Bonnie) of Kent, WA, William Jennings of Everett, Mishal Brown (Steven) of Gig Harbor; daughter-in-law Laura Jennings of Duvall, WA; step-sons: Kenton Thurman (Pam) of Kirkland, WA, Rodney Thurman of Longview, WA; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Life Center, 1717 South Union Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98405.
