The September Free and Reduced lunch figures are out for Clover Park School District. It is important that everyone knows the makeup of our community and the importance of getting involved in our schools. With a total enrollment of 12,156 there are 5,713 kids on free lunch and 2,287 on reduced lunch. This means 66% of our kids are on free and reduced lunch with five elementary schools being over 90% of the free and reduced lunch count.. Combining the totals of both the military bases’ elementary schools there is a total of 849 kids on free lunch and 850 kids on reduced lunch, a total of 1,699. Of course this does not include all of the military kids who do not live on base. Clover Park is third in the state for the percentage of kids on free and reduced lunch.
Caring for Kids is working hard to make a difference for all of these kids. We provide clothing, shoes, emergency food, school supplies, holiday gifts, hygiene products, dental products, baby clothes and new books. We work directly with the schools and other community agencies. In September alone Caring for Kids filled 157 clothing banks orders with shoes, pants, shirts and coats. Our school supply bank provided 186 kids with school supplies. This has been a very busy and demanding start to the year!
Caring for Kids needs your help. We are looking for donations of canned meals and canned fruit for our emergency food packs. Also on December 13th we will be holding our annual Holiday Fair for our families in need. Last year we helped 2,305 kids in our community. Donations of new clothing and new toys are needed for this event. Monetary donations can be sent to Caring for Kids, Soundview Uniserv Council, 6132 Motor Ave. S.W. Suite W-1, Lakewood, WA 98499. Caring for Kids is a 501c3 under the umbrella of the Tacoma Exchange Club Foundation.Print This Post
