Music lovers will tap their toes and stomp their feet at Tillicum Pierce County Library, 14916 Washington Ave. S.W., on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m.
Vivian and Phil Williams present Pioneer Dance Tunes of the Far West, a dynamic program of stories and dance featuring banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin music from diverse national and regional traditions.
These talented musicians play the hoedowns, reels, waltzes, dance tunes and songs that came to the Pacific Northwest with the pioneers over the Oregon Trail.
Vivian Williams has won fiddle contests in the U.S. and Canada, including Washington State Senior Champion, National Ladies Champion, West Coast International in Canada and the Smithsonian Fiddle Contest in Washington, D.C.
Phil Williams makes and repairs stringed instruments, co-authored the major recording arts book “Professional Microphone Techniques” and published “The Mandolin Player’s Pastime,” a collection of fiddle tunes for the mandolin.
Phil and Vivian Williams helped found the Seattle Folklore Society, Northwest Folklife and the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association.
