Susan Keller RN MSN, national board certified school nurse and the Clover Park School District (CPSD) department head for nurses, is given last minute instructions as she prepares for a television interview for Pierce County News. Keller was interviewed about the success CPSD has had with its student immunization program. According to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, the district has the lowest student exemption immunization rate in the state.
In 2004, the World Health Organization reported that there were 30 million cases of measles and 454,000 measles deaths worldwide. Statistics show that deaths due to measles have fallen 60 percent worldwide since 1999. Between 2000 and 2006, there was an average of 66
cases of measles per year in the U.S.
