The Lakewood Republican Women (LRW) hosted terrorism expert Bill Cooper at a recent brunch meeting at the Oakbrook Country Club. Over 60 members and guests heard a presentation on the potential terrorism threat to the United States and the Pacific Northwest.
Cooper is a retired Seattle area police chief and well known terrorism expert. Cooper’s presentation highlighted issues contained in his book “Confronting the Threat”.
In order to understand what America is facing, Cooper said “one must have an understanding of the threat and what the consequences are for failing to deal with the threat. While many Americans have moved on since 9-11, the terrorist are continuing to plot against us.” Cooper said, “Vehicle bombs and airborne explosives that cause serious loss of life, heavy economic impact and demoralization of the population are terrorist weapons of choice, but recent information indicates that biological attacks are also being considered.”
Cooper asked “Why do terrorist want to attack America?” Because America is the only nation on the planet currently capable of defeating them and keeping them from their goal of world dominance based on ancient religious principles, Cooper answered.
Community vigilance and well trained first responders are key to thwarting terrorist activity according to Cooper. The United States has made great progress in this area, but constant individual and community vigilance is the key to success against a dedicated adversary, Cooper concluded.
The next meeting of the LRW is set for Friday, Oct 17 at the Oakbrook Country Club, 11:30 am. Guest speaker will be Wayne Perryman. Call Gwen Young at 253-582-3990 for more information.
