LAKEWOOD, WA — The Lakewood First Lions Club has set October 18, 2008 for its annual Night of Giving Auction. After two years absence due to the renovation of its traditional venue at Pierce College the club has set this years‚Äô event for the new Sharon McGavick Conference Center on the Clover Park Technical College campus in Lakewood. The theme this year is ‚ÄúShipwrecked,‚Äù and costumes are optional and fun.
The club has returned over $43,000 to the community since 2007 from proceeds of its auction and OktoberFest celebrations. Historically the event has raised as much as $80,000 in a year from items donated by the community. Those items have ranged from exotic vacations in Mexico, Canada and the U.S., to weekends in donated cabins, labor crews to work on local yards, collectible items for the home and, an annual favorite, the wheelbarrow full of beer.
Items for this year’s auction are now being requested from the public and local businesses. What is new this year is the Lions’ 501 (C) (3) status, allowing donors to list donations and contributions as tax deductable. Items donated need to be new, with the exception of antiques and collectables, with a value of $50.00 or more, including any professional services offered.
In addition to requesting donations the club is now selling tickets for the event. For information regarding either donations or tickets to this much anticipated gala call Dave O’Keeffe at 589-7489 or 988-2008, or Eric Rentz at 435-4518 or 302-1689.Print This Post
