A four-man team of newcomers took the tournament title and helped raise more than $53,000 for student scholarships Aug. 7 at the Pierce College Scholarship Scramble at High Cedars Golf Club.
The winning team score was posted by Kevin Smith, Stu Clifford, John Lewen, and Dean Strand. Other notable teams included the Columbia Bank team led by Stan Ausmus, which posted the lowest score among teams with handicaps of 10 or lower, and the team led by Pierce College science instructor Tom Bush and the members of his reunited high school golf team from the 1970s, which posted the lowest score for teams with handicaps of 11 or higher.
In addition to the four-person scramble tournament, there were numerous games scattered along the course. These included Beat the Kid, Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Drive the Green, and a putting contest.
Following the day of golf, live and silent auctions were held to raise additional funds for the Pierce College Foundation‚Äôs many scholarship opportunities. This is the 15th anniversary of these events, raising nearly $500,000 over the years.
Waste Connections, of Tacoma, was the title sponsor of the Pierce College Scholarship Scramble for the fourth straight year.
