Lakewood, WA — At 6:10 p.m. on Sunday evening, the Lakewood Fire Department was dispatched to a water rescue on American Lake. It was reported that at least one person had submerged in the water and bystanders were actively searching for her.
Crews arrived at American Lake at 6:15 p.m. to search the area. Two Lakewood Fire marine units were in the water searching for the victim and a citizen offered the use of his personal boat. Lakewood Fire and Police Department personnel were on board the personal boat to continue the search.
A few minutes later, the victim was reported to have been brought to shore on Beard Island. The boat staffed with fire and police personnel arrived at the island to find two bystanders performing CPR on the victim. She was immediately taken to the public boat launch near Boundary Street, where paramedics were standing by. Madigan Ambulance transported the victim to the hospital while two Lakewood Fire paramedics rode in the ambulance to stabilize the patient. Unfortunately, the patient died later at the hospital.
Lakewood Fire District 2 would like to thank everyone that assisted in this rescue. Their hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated.
