More than $10,000 was raised last week at the 3rd Annual Allen Realtors golf tournament for the benefit of the American Lake Veterans Golf Course.
The fundraiser is to help maintain and preserve the golf course because the American Lake Veterans Hospital no longer receives appropriated federal funds to support the greens.
“It’s a way for us to say thanks to all of our veterans,” said Allen Realtors president Mike Larson. “It’s a fun day and a way for us to help the golf course,” he said.
Sixteen foursomes participated in the tournament, played in a scramble format. The tournament even featured a hole-in-one by John Callaway on the 136-yard 17th hole. It was Callaway’s first ace in 17 years of golfing.
The day also featured a raffle and live auction. The money raised was the most ever for the tournament. Nearly $30,000 has been raised since the inception of the tournament in 2006.
