The Lakewood Playhouse was the recent recipient of a $2,500 grant from the Pierce County ArtsFund. The award ceremony was held at the beautiful William Traver Gallery in Tacoma and was the first time the Lakewood Playhouse has received an ArtsFund grant. The grant was based on the ArtsFund’s goal to “strengthen the arts in the region” and to “promote artistic and organizational excellence.”
Marcus Walker, managing artistic director of the Lakewood Playhouse and Phil Raschke, Vice President of the Playhouse Board of Directors accepted the award at the ceremonies. Award amount was based on interviews and ratings of the ArtsFund Allocations Committee. The Playhouse will use the funds to support ongoing main stage productions and the Youth Theatre Program.
The ArtsFund receives it proceeds from the Boeing Company, the Microsoft Corporation, the Skinner Endowments, the Kreielsheimer Music and Theatre Funds and other philanthropic organizations.
The Lakewood Playhouse opens its new season on September 5 with the murder-mystery “Lucky Stiff”. Call 253-588-0042 for reservations.
