Three years ago the community got together to build the Playground @ Ft. Steilacoom Park under the leadership of members of the Rotary Club of Lakewood. The success of that week-long building project resulted in thousands of youngsters and their parents flocking to Fort Steilacoom Park almost every day since then.
About a year after the playground opened, the Rotary Club of Clover Park erected a large picnic shelter next to the playground. It came complete with tables, BBQ stands, water and electricity. Earlier this year, the Clover Park Rotary Club put up a smaller picnic shelter, more suitable for a family gathering, rather then a larger group or organization.
With the popularity of the playground and the picnic shelters, the Rotary Club of Lakewood decided to add additional heavy-duty picnic tables to the area and on Saturday about 20 members of the club plus members of the Clover Park Rotary Club and several Clover Park School District students turned up to start the project.
Additional work parties will be scheduled in coming weeks to complete the new tables. In addition to the Rotary Club members, community members are invited to help with the building project.
