University Place hosts Annual National Night Out Against Crime for Neighborhoods

The City of University Place’s dedicated Police and Fire personnel are hosting the annual National Night Out Against Crime event on Tuesday, August 5 from 6-9 p.m. National Night Out is sponsored by Target and this is the tenth consecutive year University Place has participated in the event, with a large and growing turnout of participating neighborhoods each year. This year marks the 25th anniversary of National Night Out as a successful nationwide crime-prevention event.

Interested neighborhoods are encouraged to register for the National Night Out, which is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The event also provides an opportunity for children to meet with their public safety personnel and see fire engines and police vehicles up close.

Neighborhoods participating in National Night Out can expect a caravan of University Place Police and Fire personnel, city staff and elected officials to visit their neighborhood between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. It is the perfect occasion to host a block party or barbeque and bond with neighbors to fight crime.

Citizens residing within University Place city limits must register their neighborhood for the event by Thursday, July 31st. For more information or to register for National Night Out, please contact the University Place Police Department at (253) 798-3141.
