The new permanent exhibit of the Steilacoom Historical Museum recently received the “2008 Award of Exhibit Excellence.” This is one of the highest honors awarded annually by the Washington Museum Association. SHMA members should be deservedly proud as our museum now joins the ranks of some excellent award-winning museums throughout the State of Washington.
The new exhibit, entitled “Steilacoom’s Story,” was designed by Chris Erlich, who joined president Joan Shalikashvili and docent coordinator Diane Maus to receive the award on behalf of the Steilacoom Historical Museum Association. It was presented at a special ceremony during the Washington Museum Association’s annual conference.
The new exhibit vividly depicts the history of The Town through the use of numerous photos, artifacts and audiovisual devices. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see the new exhibit, bring your friends and family to enjoy it any weekend from 11 am to 3 pm (corner of Rainier & Main).
