FORT LEWIS, Wash. — Celebrate Freedom Fest with Fort Lewis Friday, July 4, at Cowan Stadium. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. and last through the fireworks show at dark. The entire family will enjoy the day’s events with plenty of entertainment, exhibits, food and fun for people of all ages.
This year’s event features The Coasters, best known for their ’50s and 60s hits in a free concert on the main stage at 7:00 p.m. The Memorial Stadium Stage will also feature a number of musical and variety entertainment acts, ranging from oldies to classic rock. Also, we will have professional carnival rides from Funtastic Carnivals.
Other activities include the 7K Mud Run at Soldiers Field House that begins at 9 a.m., and Fort Lewis’s annual classic car show, Classy Chassis. The show will set up inside Memorial Stadium and feature classic cars from across the Puget Sound area. Judging begins at 11 a.m., with people’s choice voting all day and awards presented at 3 p.m. Kids’ World promises to be fun for children of all ages with a variety of games, rides and entertainment. The Kids’ World Stage will welcome the Rowdy Refs Game Show and Magician Kevin Wolfe. Roaming the festival grounds will be Tall Characters stilt walkers, magicians and more. A number of food booths will be set up in the food court area, so come hungry. There will also be crafters and information booths set up from Fort Lewis organizations and companies in the local area.
The festival culminates with a Salute to the Union ceremony beginning at 9 p.m., followed by an I Corps Army Band concert and, at full dark, a spectacular fireworks show.
Parking and admission are free. Civilians without valid DoD ID cards and Fort Lewis vehicle decals must use I-5 Exit 119 at DuPont.
