At their annual installation dinner June 14th Lakewood First Lions presented their new slate of officers to attending membership and families.
Officers for the 2008-2009 term are: President, Riley Smith; 1st Vice President, Michael Brandstetter; 2nd Vice President, Hugh Hedges; 3rd Vice President Eric Renz; Secretary, Paul Calta; and Treasurer, Barbara Reames.
Also presented at the dinner was Lion of the Year recognition to Eric Renz and, to member Fae Crabill (left), the ‚ÄúLions Care Gordon F. Smith Fellowship.‚Äù The latter, a Multiple District 19 award, was presented for the first time by the Lakewood club and has been established as recognition for outstanding contributions by a first year member. Eric Renz earned the Lion of the Year award for his untiring efforts in a wide range of Lions activities. In addition to being the new 3rd Vice President he is 1st Vice Chair of the membership committee and chairperson for acquisitions for the upcoming Night of Giving Auction.
The Lions Clubs are open to all who are interested in serving needs in their local communities as well as international needs. Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world, including working to end preventable blindness. Local projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters.
