Happy 233rd Birthday to the U.S. Army

FORT LEWIS, Wash. — Soldiers, families and civilians at Fort Lewis and at Army installations worldwide will celebrate the U.S. Army‚Äôs 233rd birthday on June 14. Army Families have been an integral part of the 233-year history of the Army‚Äôs support to our Nation, and one way we‚Äôll mark this year‚Äôs Army Birthday is at our Child Development Centers with the reading of a short book titled “Happy Birthday U.S. Army” about the history of the Army. The book was written by U.S. Army Child & Youth Services.

Fort Lewis garrison commander Colonel Cynthia Murphy will read to a group of children at the Clarkmoor Child Development Center, near the post headquarters. The “Happy Birthday U.S. Army” book will be read to children at all the Fort Lewis CDCs and School Age Centers throughout the day on June 13, and the older children will be given a copy of the book to keep.

Along with the book reading, the children will also have birthday cake to add to the celebration.

On Friday evening, Fort Lewis will have an Army birthday party at the Summit roller skating arena on post at 5 p.m. for Fort Lewis families. There will be free skating from 5 to 7 p.m., along with birthday cake and the story reading.
