FORT LEWIS, Wash. – The 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division marked another milestone in the brigades’ redeployment, as Soldiers from the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion 12th Field Artillery Regiment, and several other units returned to Fort Lewis June 10.
The brigade is returning from its first combat deployment, a 15-month deployment to Iraq. While deployed, the brigade conducted security patrols and raids, supported and trained Iraqi security forces, and oversaw local community development projects throughout Iraq’s Diyala province.
In all, more than 800 Soldiers were expected to return to Fort Lewis on Tuesday, on three flights. An estimated 500 Soldiers were set to return on Tuesday morning, and a final flight of approximately 300 Soldiers was to arrive that afternoon.
After June 10, all 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division units will have returned to Fort Lewis, completing the return of the brigades’ “main body.” Approximately 400 Soldiers remain deployed as part of the brigade’s “trail party”. Most of those Soldiers will
return to Fort Lewis later this month.
