A little background about the Life Safety Charity Fund
Lakewood Fire and Police Department’s Life Safety Charity Fund (LSCF) is a 501-c-3 non-profit corporation established in 1994. Its value to both fire and police departments and community has grown since.
Our Purpose. The LSCF gives the Lakewood Fire and Police Department a mechanism to use donations directly for community benefitting programs where tax dollars, by law, cannot fund. Donors, in-turn, get the non-profit tax donation advantage.
Our Funding. The LSCF has accepted cash and physical property donations. It has provided fund raising events such as the annual Lakewood Police/Fire basketball game or silent auction at the fire department banquet; employees’ payroll deduction and generous donations from the public, to include memorial gifts.
Our Acts. The LSCF has enjoyed sponsoring many direct services to the Lakewood community public such as the annual Pumpkin Patch Safety Day or the nationally recognized smoke detector and battery program for underprivileged families; bicycle helmets at a reduced cost and other safety supplies. Additionally, the LSCF Lakewood Fire Department’s Community And Resource, Education (CARE) Program give department crews an immediate funding mechanism, such as the nationally awarded Taxi Voucher Program for individuals who need a ride to the hospital but not by ambulance, or to replace the clothes firefighters cut off at medical calls or the window they break to make entry to care for a person. The CARE Program will soon also be implemented by Lakewood Police. The LSCF is also working to implement a scholarship program for local youth. LSCF has received donations of houses so that firefighters can practice fire attacks, arson investigation, firefighter rescue techniques; the donor receives the tax advantage and building demolition.
Our Vision. Throughout the years, the LSCF has relied upon funding to direct its acts. The Board of Directors is excited to advance the Fund in new directions that benefits the public, especially children and the underprivileged. The LSCF is searching for new partnerships, grants and establishing a Legacy & Memorial Gift Foundation.
The Life Safety Charity Fund utilizes nearly 100% of the donations toward charity and not on administrative overhead. The LSCF Board members volunteer their time in numerous ways.
Thank you for thinking of the Life Safety Charity Fund, your donation will directly help our community.
