Glacier Northwest has request a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to expand their mine operations by 177 acres. Approximately 40 million tons of gravel will be extracted over the next 14 years. The proposed mining project will expose an underlying aquifer and the water from it will be directed into the lower Sequalitchew Creek through a man made channel cut through the canyon wall. The surrounding groundwater levels will significantly be lowered around DuPont.
An informal public meeting is planned to:
- Present information about the application.
- Outline the review process and relevant city codes and criteria
- Provide an opportunity for the public to identify concerns to be addressed in the staff report
The meeting will be May 6th at 7:00 pm, at DuPont City Hall.
