Bidders crowd the silent auction tables at the Lakewood Rotary Club’s annual Sportsman’s Dinner & Auction.
Lakewood Rotary Club’s annual Sportsman’s Dinner and Auction drew a record-setting crowd Saturday at the Sharon McGavick Center at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood. More than 475 individuals were registered for the event, according to chairman Paul Wulfestieg.
In addition to the dinner of exotic game, as well as some more usual fare such as salmon, chicken and the like, the extensive oral and silent auctions drew lots of action. Proceeds from this annual event fund a variety of charitable activities organized by the 130-member Rotary Club. The Playground at Fort Steilacoom Park was one of the community efforts of the club as well as support for the Lakewood YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, St Clare Hospital and many other community projects.
A final accounting of proceeds from the auction hasn’t been completed yet, but club president Bob Zawilski indicated he expected it to also set a new record.
