Two teachers and a student were recently recognized by the Rotary Club of Lakewood. Named outstanding teachers and student for the month were:
Lee – CPSD Student; McLeod – CPSD; Stipek – SHSD
* Hyungjin Lee, a student at Clover Park’s Lakes High School;
* Michael Stipek, a Steilacoom Historical School District teacher at Saltars’ Point Elementary;
* Avery McLeod of the Clover Park School District’s 5-12 Learning Community.
Lee has a 4.0 Grand Point Average and is currently ranked 1st in her class at Lakes High School. She is the ASB president, a Student member of Lakes Site Council, an AP Scholar, and Dance Team and Swim team captain. She has volunteered as an Ignite Mentor at the Tacoma Rescue mission. She has participated in Concert Orchestra for four years and is currently enrolled in three Advanced Placement classes. She enjoys a variety of activities such as playing the piano, reading Jan Austen novels and performing traditional Korean dances.
According to school principal Nilsa Sotomayor, ‚ÄúStipek is a hard working, respected and conscientious member of Salter’s Point Elementary School faculty. He is a sound thinker, has a rich understanding and passion for learning, and is considerate of the needs of all concerned.‚Äù
McLeod is in his third year of serving as an outstanding math and science teacher in the Clover Park School District,
The Lakewood Rotary Club recognizes a teacher from each school district and a student from each district every month. The 130-member community-service organization has been serving the community for more than 50 years. Bob Zawilski is currently serving as president of the club, which meets every Friday noon at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club.
