Twenty eight Lakes Hight School students attended the state DECA competition in
Bellevue March 6-8. Eight were award winners and four qualified for Nationals in Atlanta.
Not only did they qualify, they ranked top in their events. Lakes had more award winners than the other Pierce County schools combined.
Washington DECA currently has over 10,400 members in 144 chapters across Washington State, and is the third largest state association in the nation.
140 schools (2800 students) attended the state conference in Bellevue. The Lakes students who qualified for Nationals are also varsity athletes as well.

While at the state conference, students completed a written exam and participated in two roleplays. Competitors were judged by volunteers who are experienced professionals in their event categories. The Judges rated the students ability to present themselves as business professionals and provide a convincing recommendation in response to an assigned business situation. Students receive recognition in the form of medals, trophies and continuing education scholarships.
