Kim Cory, a senior at Steilacoom High School, has been recognized as Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Lakewood.
Cory was recommended for being an academic elite as well as a strong leader and a person with high integrity, impeccable character, and unlimited drive. She was elected junior class treasurer and this year is president of the Associated Student Body of Steilacoom High School. Cory participates in athletes and was elected captain of both the cross-country and fast-pitch teams.
In the past three years, she has dedicated much time in organizing and developing the Student2Student program, which assists new students as they transition into Steilacoom High School. For her efforts, she was one of 16 students nationwide invited to WestPoint to participate in the Frances Hasselbein Leadership forum.
The Rotary Club of Lakewood recognizes a student of the month form the Clover Park and Steilacoom Historical School Districts as well as recognizing a teacher of the month from each district. The recognitions take place during the Lakewood Rotary Club’s regular Friday noon meetings at the Tacoma Country & golf club. Bob Zawilski is currently president of the 130-member club that has been providing community service for more that 50 years.
