Walter Henry McCarren
Walter Henry McCarren of Yelm, Washington died peacefully in his home on January 4, 2008. One of seven children of Jim and Alice McCarren, Walter was born February 25, 1922 on the family farm in Becker County, Minnesota.
Proceeding him in death are his mother, father, two brothers (Lawrence and Bob) and two sisters (Esther and Betty). He is survived by one son (Ed), three grandchildren (Dorothy, Bob and Jeff) and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving him are one brother (Don), one sister (Delores) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 11, 2008 in the Mountain View Garden Chapel.
Thomas Milton Bruce
July 17th, 1931 – January 4th, 2008
Thomas Milton Bruce, husband to Annie, father to Robert, Linda, Glynis, Jeffrey and Carvedia went home to his Father’s mansion on January 4, 2008.
Thomas retired as foreman from the concrete construction industry after 44 years overseeing construction and installation of Curbs and Drainage Gutters at every major intersection, arterial and street throughout Tacoma and Pierce County, including the first floors at St Joseph and Tacoma General Hospital.
The eldest son of Mabel Bruce and the late Mr. Willie Bruce of Royston, Georgia, Mr. Bruce arrived in Tacoma in 1954 as a Korean War US Army Veteran. Enamored with the area and a young miss, Annie Velma Bean, Thomas bought a house on Hill Top and married his sweet heart in 1957.
Until his illness took all his energy, Thomas was Post Exalted Ruler of Mt Tacoma Lodge 142, Vice Commander of the American Legion 222, Masonic Lodge and a Two Term President and life member of the Caballeros Club and a life long member of Allen AME Church. Thomas enjoyed outdoor life and sharing his values, work ethic and knowledge with his caring family.
A special thank you to all the wonderful people at the Renal Dialysis Unit at St Joseph’s Hosptial, especially Dr Weatherby, Dr Hannigan and Dr. Joseph for the wonderful care they provided.
Viewing will be Friday January 11, 2008 at Mountain View Funeral from 1 to 9 pm and the funeral will be held on Saturday January 12, 2008 at 11 am at Allen AME Church.
Leona M. Grotelueschen
Leona M. Grotelueschen was born March 25, 1918 in Alexandria, Indiana. She was a 20-year member of the Lions, having served as Past President of the Peninsula Lions and being the first woman in the Gig Harbor Lions. She also received the Melvin Jones Award from the Lions.
Husbands, John Whitaker and Greely Groteluechen; son-in-law Bob Cheatham; her parents, Jesse and Mabel Lawson and 4 siblings preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth (Charles) Seaich of Roseville, CA, and Marilyn Cheatham of University Place, WA; son, David (Charline) Whitaker of Stockton, CA; sister, Joy Wasson of Sacramento, CA; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Viewing will be Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from 3pm to 9pm at Mountain View Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 2:30pm at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Cathy Marie Hall
Born 2/25/1959 in Clovis, NM and passed away unexpectedly 1/5/2008 in Tacoma, WA.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Jay Dee Ballard; 2 daughters, Brandie (Michael) Hill, Julie Copeland; 2 sons, Leonard (Sabrina) Ballard, Mike (Tara) Shadle; father, Wayne Burgess; 3 brothers, David, Jim, & Jeff Burgess; and 11 grandchildren.
The family will be having a private gathering at a later date.
