The 25-member Foundation Board seeks to expand and enhance library services beyond the scope of the Library’s tax-based funding to reach un-served and underserved communities in the county. The Foundation was the primary fundraiser for the Library’s Explorer Kids’ Bookmobile, which serves children in low-income neighborhoods. The Foundation also supports the Library System’s summer reading program, which serves thousands of kids and teenagers throughout the county.
In the past year, individuals and organizations gave more than $190,000 to Pierce County Library Foundation. The Foundation used nearly $145,000 to expand and enhance library services.
The Pierce County Library System is the fourth largest public library in Washington state; in terms of the population it serves, serving 522,000 people in unincorporated Pierce County and 14 cities and towns.
