Anita Bruscas, a Clover Park School District reading coach, was recognized recently by the Rotary Club of Lakewood as its Teacher of the Month.
A teacher for 21 years, Ms. Bruscas joined the Lakeview Elementary School in the fall of 2003, according to school principal Jo Dee Owens.
Curious to find out what each child’s strength is in learning, the honored teacher said she has found that “all children have the desire to learn and to help them do their best you have to show them you genuinely care,” she explained. “Once you build that relationship and children know that you care about them and their success they will surprise you with how much they can learn.”
Tony Robinson, a member of the Lakewood Rotary Club, made the presentation to the teacher of the month, a practice the club follows throughout the school year.
The 130-member Lakewood Rotary Club also recognizes a teacher each month from the Steilacoom School District as well as a student of the month from each of the districts.
Lakewood Rotary Club has been supporting the community since its was chartered more than 50 years ago. The organization meets each Friday noon at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club. Bob Zawilski is currently president of the community service and philanthropic organization.
