A crew of Lakewood-area boy scouts recently invested time during the past two weeks giving a facelift to a local school playground.
Chase Lawrenson, a Lakes High School Junior, coordinated the facelift to the Developmental Preschool Playground at Steilacoom’s Cherrydale Primary School.
The work to the playground was one of his final requirements for his Eagle Scout Badge. Chase is a member of Boy Scout Troop #410.
Chase and his crew pressure washed the bike path, play surfaces, and Big Toy. They also hand washed the white metal fence surrounding the playground. The project included repainting the four-square, hop scotch, and parking area for the riding toys. They also refreshed the one-way directional arrows on the bike path and repainted safety lines in front of the classroom doors and circle spots where students line up.
The various repainted areas define spaces for the students, promote gross motor and ball skills, facilitate a variety of learning experiences and increase student safety. The special needs of the population that the developmental preschool program serves will greatly benefit from Chase’s service.
Developmental Preschool Services thanks Chase for his scouting achievements, his dedication, time and effort on this community service project.
