Family, friends, Soldiers and the Fort Lewis community will remember Capt. Drew N. Jensen, 27, of Clackamas, Oregon, in a memorial ceremony to be held Wed., Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Main Post Chapel.
According to the Dept. of Defense, Jensen died Sept. 7 in Seattle of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire during combat operations May 7 in Ba’qubah, Iraq.
At the time he was injured, Jensen was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.
According to unit records, Jensen graduated from U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in History. He attended Infantry officer training and Ranger school, then reported to Fort Lewis on April 25, 2003, and was assigned to 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team). He deployed twice with the brigade in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; first, from November 2003 through October 2004, and again in June 2006.
