According to the Dept. of Defense, Spc. David L. Watson, 29, of Newport, Arkansas, died Sept. 22 in Iraq, of wounds sustained in a non-combat related accident. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team). The brigade deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in April, 2007.
According to unit records, Watson initially entered military service on February 23, 1997. He began his current term of active service on Sept. 25, 2005. After completing advanced individual training in his military occupational specialty of 68W: Health Care Specialist (Combat Medic) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, he reported to Fort Lewis on June 22, 2006. He has served with 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), since June 29, 2006.
Watson’s civilian and military and civilian education includes a Bachelor’s Degree (2002), and the Health Care Specialist (Combat Medic) Qualification Course (2006).
His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
