HANS JACOBSEN TVETER
Hans Jacobsen Tveter was born July 28, 1914 in Sarpsborg, Norway, the second of seven children born to Ludvig & Hulda Tveter. He passed away on August 18, 2007. Hans lived in his native Norway until 1.927 when at the age of 13, his mother brought Hans and his four siblings to United States, to be reunited with their father.
The family lived in the town of National, a small logging community, south of Tacoma. Hans graduated from Eatonville High School in 1933, and thereafter was employed by the Pacific National Lumber Company until the mill was closed in 1944.
When the family moved to Tacoma in 1944, Hans followed working several jobs including commercial fishing and meat delivery. In 1947 he went to work for Canimarano Bros, a Tacoma beverage distributor. During his 30 year career, he delivered soda pop and beer to Pierce County businesses. He retired from Cammarano Bros. in 1977.
Hans was a life long member of Teamster Local #313, and Sons of Norway. Fishing was always the most important thing in Hans life. He maintained a vacation trailer at Westport for his frequent charter boat fishing excursions. After his retirement Hans often spent several days a week fishing for salmon. In later years he made several trips to Sitka Alaska “to catch the big ones”. Hans had four nephews and four nieces who were an important part of his life. He frequently took them along on his many charter boat fishing trips and other special outings.
Hans also was an accomplished gardener and raised excellent sweet corn and tomatoes, which he shared with friends and family.
Hans is survived by his sister’s Helene Miller of Eatonville, and Anna Louise Palfenier (Roland) of Tacoma. He is also survived by his nephews Robert Miller, James Miller, Roger Palfenier, and John Tveter; and nieces Caroline Palfenier, Julianne Ferguson, Janice Guier and Mary Louise Glaser.
Hans was preceded in death by his parents Ludvig & Hulda Tveter; sister’s Olga and Elsie Tveter and brothers Leif Tveter and Jacob Tveter.
Memorial services for Hans will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church, 6511 South C Street, Tacoma, Washington.
