In July 2001, Central Sprinkler Company in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall to replace 65 different models of Central type sprinkler heads using O-Ring type water seals. These recalled heads cause corrosion, leaking, and may fail to activate during a fire. The recall claim forms and supplemental information must be completed and submitted by August 31, 2007 to the Central Sprinkler Company.
Within the City of DuPont, homes built by Centex, Zetterberg and Rush may contain the recalled sprinkler heads. To help residents identify the heads used in their homes, the City of DuPont Fire Department will be going door-to-door on Wednesday, August 15th and Thursday, August 16th. Firefighters and inspectors will help residents identify which models are in the home in order to record it on the claim packets.
Residents will need to go to www.sprinklerreplacement.com and print the claim packet. On the home page, click on “How Do I Participate” then click on “New Claimant”. The claimant packet should be printed and available prior to the City of DuPont Fire Department arrival. Residents will also need to take two pictures of each model of recalled sprinkler head in their home to submit with the packet. The City of DuPont Fire Department would like to remind residents to read the packet carefully, as it is very detailed.
Join the City of DuPont Fire Department and the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office on Thursday, August 16th at 7pm for an informational session at DuPont City Hall, located at 303 Barksdale Avenue. This session will cover the information you will need to submit the claim packet correctly, questions residents may have about the recall process, and any other general questions.
