There’s a new mascot in town. It’s the new concession stand of the Lake Steilacoom Youth Athletic Association. Fashioned after a Lancer Youth Football helmet it’s already made an appearance at both Lakewood’s Summerfest, and the Steilacoom 4th of July Celebration to rave reviews.
The dream of owner/director Rich Johnson, the idea of “Orange Crush” has been percolating for years. He wanted a mobile concession stand that would also serve as a showpiece for the growing organization that he heads. The name comes from the defensive chant used by both his organization and Lakes High School. It wasn’t until Johnson came across the camper van at a local garage that the dream began to take shape. After purchasing the vehicle the dedicated parents of the organization jumped into action. They worked on the engine, cleaned and modified the interior, and painted the outside from a mock up created by director Johnson. The facemask was the final touch to give birth to “Orange Crush”.
You can see “Orange Crush” in person at all of the Lancer home games which take place on Saturdays during the month of September and October at Mann Middle School football field. Come out to see it, and while you do enjoy your favorite beverage and snack as you watch some of the most exciting youth football in the area.
