Harold Clarke, head of the Washington State Department of Corrections, will be the featured speaker at the August 1 meeting of the 2nd & 29th Districts Republican Club. Mr. Clarke has headed the DOC since February 2005 and will address today’s current issues and challenges facing the corrections system including the new legislature approved offender re-entry program, and the newly formed committee for equitable distribution of work release participants. Today’s prison population is 18,000 and there are 8,000 corrections employees. Clarke previously lead Nebraska’s prison system for fourteen years and is President Elect of the American Correctional Association.
