USGA amateur Stefanie Coleman, City of Lakewood employee and resident of University Place was the first woman invited to play Chambers Bay, the new links course in University Place. As part of the gallery, I was astounded to see how beautiful the course was from the golfer’s vantage, aside from the views one sees on the walking trails. The fairways are beautiful, undulating green carpets cut around enormous but treacherous bunkers. The vast greens are truly cut for competitive golf and require great skill in reading the lie of the ball in relation to the dipping hills and valleys of the putting surface. Stefanie and Assistant Pro Brent Zepp who hosted the round, had the extra challenge of playing without the placement of tees or flags, as these will be the last to be added before the course is open to the public.
Chambers Bay has the potential to be one of our State’s most beautiful treasures and I was honored to be able to see it from the golfer’s perspective!
