Kidz Love Soccer Skills Classes
Kidz Love Soccer will teach children ages 2-12 the fundamentals of the world’s most popular game through fun, safe and age-appropriate activities. The summer session runs July though August 11 at Active Park. For a schedule or to register, call 589-2489.
Kidz Love Soccer Camps
Kidz Love Soccer will teach children ages 2-12 the fundamentals of the world’s most popular game through fun, safe and age-appropriate activities. These camps will be held July 16-20 at American Lake Park. The cost is $56.00 per child. Times & fees are as follows:
- Half Day Camp: 9am-noon, $87.00
- Full Day Camp: 9am-3pm, $157.00 (water play included, so bring your suit & towel)
U.K. International Soccer Camps
U.K. International Soccer Camps, Inc. vows to provide “The Best Possible Soccer Experience” in a safe, educational and fun environment. A camp shirt, ball and soccer gift are included in the fee. This camp for ages 4-16 will be held at July 30th & August 3rd at Fort Steilacoom Park. The cost for half-day (9am-12pm) is $92.00 and the full-day camp (9am-3pm) is $142.00.
Summer Day Camp
This popular program for youth and teens features games, team-building activities, arts & crafts and the Free Summer Lunch program through the school district. Participation in the weekly field trips will be based on the behavior of the camper during that week. The camp is Monday & Friday and begins June 25th and ends August 17th at Woodbrook Middle School. Camp times are 9am & 3pm. Cost is only $3 per day! Registration can be done on a daily or weekly basis.
Sign up now! Classes are held at the Clover Park High School courts. We offer a variety of classes for ages 3-adult. Sessions begin July 9 and run weekly through August 23. Cost is just $28 and racquets are provided!
Ever dreamed of being the next big star? Get your start right here in Lakewood! Auditions for Lakewood Idol will be held Thursday, July 12th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Lakewood City Hall. Singers must bring a karaoke/back-up disc without vocals. A $10.00 audition fee will be due at this time. No duets or group performances. Ages 12-adult.
Eight finalists will be selected to advance to the final competition which will be held Tuesday, July 24th at 6:30 p.m. at American Lake Park. At the final competition, finalists will compete for $250 cash (courtesy of Brenda Leech with Countrywide Home Loans), the opportunity to advance to Washington’s Battle of the Idols at the Puyallup Fair with a $1,000 cash prize, and the title of Lakewood Idol 2007.
Dance & Cheerleading
It is not too late to register for dance and cheer classes through Lakewood Parks & Recreation. We offer classes for ages 3-adult. All classes only $20. Summer sessions begin June 26th and August 7th.
We also will offer youth Summer Dance Camps July 16-20. Camp cost is only $45. Call 589-2489 for more info or to register.
Join the Tacoma Pierce County Humane Society for a week of animal fun. Kampers will learn to love and care for their pets and environment through games, crafts and field trips.

Gold Creek Basin Day Hike
This is a great introduction to hiking for youth (and adults) through easy terrain with scenic views. The hike is highlighted by natural beaver dams that are easily seen from the trail. Pack a lunch and water for a fun-filled day. Saturday, July 21st, from 9am & 4pm. We will depart and return to Lakewood City Hall. Cost is $20 and includes transportation and parking permit. Limited to those 12 years & older.
Plummer Peak Climb
Looking for an outdoor experience to take your teen to the next level? Plummer Peak offers a unique opportunity to scale a non-technical peak with outstanding views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams. Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. Topping out at 6,370 feet, this climb begins at Reflection Lake and switchbacks upward for 1,000 feet in 1 ¬º miles. At the summit, we’ll have lunch and enjoy the view before heading down for our return trip home. Bring a day-pack for your lunch & water and don’t forget a camera. Friday, July 20th, from 9am & 4pm. We will depart and return to Lakewood City Hall. Cost is $20 and includes transportation and entrance fees into Mt. Rainier National Park. Limited to those 14 years & older.
Mt. St. Helens Climb
This once in a lifetime adventure covers heaven and earth over a two-day span. This overnight trip begins with an exploration of Ape Cave, a lava tube on the slope of Mt. St. Helens before heading to high camp. If weather permits, the Perseid meteor showers will be visible form our camp at the 4,800 feet. An early start the next morning will take us to the crater rim. The climb will take place on Thursday & Friday, August 9 & 10. We will depart from Lakewood City Hall at 9am on the 9th and return by 5pm on the 10th. Participants must be 18 years & older and in good physical condition. Ask for Dennis Higashiyama.
Orienteering & Map Reading
Backcountry snowboarders, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts can add an extra margin of safety on your outdoor excursions by learning how to effectively use a map & compass. Learn the basics that will help keep you safe. Saturday, June 30th, 11:00am at Fort Steilacoom Park. Cost is only $10 and participants must be 12 years & older. Ask for Dennis Higashiyama.
