Cormorant Park in Steilacoom’s Cormorant sub-division has a new gazebo, thanks to $4,000 in community funds and labor by the 42nd Military Police Brigade of Fort Lewis.
An old picnic table with a shelter was in the small park but it had seriously deteriorated over the years. It was removed about a month ago and a new foundation prepared.
Utilizing funds previously approved by town voters, the gazebo kit was purchased from Lowe’s. “The kit came in pre-cut pieces that basically required Part A to be put into Part B, ” according to Mayor Ron Lucas. This military unit showed up in force Wednesday morning and by late afternoon the structure was completed.
The efforts by the military police unit was part of their community service efforts similar to those by another unit which resulted in construction of a maze at the Cherrydale Elementary School.
