Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) hosted more than 1,600 high school students from four Western Washington counties attended the 6th Annual Open House Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the main Lakewood campus.
High school students, teachers, counselors and educational leaders from King, Pierce, Kitsap and Thurston county school districts convened together to explore the multitude of career options available at CPTC. 51 programs presented innovative and interactive learning experiences.
Visitors enjoyed feature presentations, student exhibits, hands-on learning demonstrations, and guided tours. The 15th Annual People’s Choice Car and Bike Show entertained car enthusiasts; a Media Festival highlighted today’s top technology, allowing students to experience it first-hand; KVTI & I-91 FM provided tours of the popular, non-commercial radio station; and Massage, Esthetics, Cosmetology and Manicuring pampered guests with their skills.
Nationally recognized motivational speaker, Delatorro L. McNeal, II inspired visitors with an informative and emotionally charged presentation, “Write Your Own Ticket.” McNeal challenged students to develop their own leadership skills and encouraged listeners to make positive life choices.
Additionally, a multitude of Washington State agencies were on site. Representatives from Tacoma Community House, Centro Latino, Youth Works and the Workforce Development Council gave demonstrations and answered questions about the services they provide.
The Open House was developed by Janet Holm in the CPTC College Relations Department. The event is always free, open to the public and no registration is required. The Open House will return next year. It is scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2008.
