Every year the 8th Grade Culture Fair gets bigger and bigger. One hundred sixty nine students with displays such as “In My Shoes,” “All that Jazz” and “Old World Roses,” were shown on May 11 at Pioneer Middle School.
Against a background of music and international cuisine (purchase of a $4 punch card bought you six samples) from around the world, parents and friends maneuvered through the building. Like an intricately choreographed progression, the line wound from the cafeteria, through rows of display tables in the gym; then into the hallway and classrooms past a profusion of elaborately crafted display boards.
Entertainers for the popular May event included the talented Pioneer Middle School Jazz Band, and solo performances by Logan Scott, Meghan Ruff and Min Cory, Ryan Picardal, Sean Coffey, Bob Quarless Steel Drum Band, Jioni Osada and the Pioneer Dancers.
“Number 19!” exclaimed a frazzled fair coordinator 8th grade teacher Derek Beaulieu, “it’s difficult to imagine we’ve had that many.”
By 9 p.m. everything had been cleaned up and cleared away for another year.
Work on Culture Fair 20-the final culture fair to be held at the building-has already begun.
