I am responding to the letter in the March 30th issue of the Suburban Times by Ms. Barbara Carrell. I know the response is not timely, but I was out of town.
I having growing concerns that some Lakewood residents would prefer Lakewood become a City for Seniors only. I am a 63 year old Grandmother myself and have lived in Lakewood for over 60 years. I was a resident of Steilacoom for a few years and gladly cleaned up someone else’s mess on the 4th of July. Everyone was having a great time and the children were setting off fireworks in the streets waiting for the big event. Some of them couldn’t stay awake for the real thing.
Our young people need a chance to enjoy a little of what we enjoyed as youngsters. Today’s social climate puts enough pressure on our children. We bombard them with scare tactics daily. Fear of War, Bombs in planes, Global Warming, Polluted Water, Kidnappers, Internet Predators, I could go on, but for your sake I won’t. Their list of “can’t do’s’ is extensive. Why add another “can’t do” to their growing list. Let children be children at least a couple of days a year.
