Monday, April 23, at approximately 12:40 PM firefighters from University Place and Lakewood, survey the fire damage possibly caused by a gasoline generator in use outside a rental storage facility. The neighboring tenant Richard Eickert, owner of the Speed Factory next door heard an explosion and went outside to find a portable generator on
fire. Eickert attempted to extinguish the fire with on site portable fire extinguishers but was unable to completely control the fire.
Fire personnel contained the blaze to the adjacent unit of Clark Mankin. However, some fire and smoke damage was sustained to Eickert’s Speed Factory which, had to close down and is currently in the process of relocating.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office.
