A classroom scene with a replica of long-time teacher Janet Tait presiding over the classroom. Students used slates & chalk to work a long-division problem.
Fourth grade students from Saltar’s Point Elementary School took advantage of sunnier weather this week by embarking on a field trip to the Steilacoom Historical Museum on Rainier Street.
Students sampled activities from the good old days including making butter, grinding coffee beans, rolling dough, sitting in the barber’s chair and attending classes in old-fashioned school desks.
As a memento of the visit students created personalized bookmarkers and button spinners. SHMA, founded in 1972, owns several historic sites in the Town on the Sound, including the Nathaniel Orr Home, Wagon Shop and Bair Store.
