Recently, three Lakes High School seniors received notification of college scholarships. Candace Turner, Nicole Vallot and LaSasha Wallace have been accepted to several colleges, where they have been offered scholarships.
Turner has been offered a full scholarship to Saint Augustine s College, in Raleigh, NC.
Additionally, she has been accepted to Florida Memorial University in Miami, Fla. She is involved in business courses, Key Club and is a member of the yearbook staff at Lakes. Turner maintains a 3.7 grade point average. She plans to major in clinical psychology.
“I want to be a clinical psychologist. I’m much more of a listener than a talker,” said Turner.
Lakes senior Nicole Vallott can take advantage of several higher education opportunities next year. She has been offered scholarships to the Evergreen State College in Olympia and Livingston University in South Carolina. After finishing an undergraduate degree, she plans to become a mortician and quips that it is a strong job market.
“I’ll never be out of a job,” said Vallot.
For LaSasha Wallace, several East Coast schools are options for her post high school education. Wallace was accepted at Dillard University in New Orleans, La., Virginia State University and Florida Memorial University. Dillard University has offered Wallace a scholarship equaling half of the cost of tuition and Virginia State is offering a scholarship of $10,000. Wallace is a full time Running Start student at Pierce College.
She’s been involved in cheerleading for three years and is an associated student body senator. Her favorite class is the yearbook staff. She maintains a 3.3 grade point average and plans to major in business. Her goal after college graduation is to become a modeling agent.
