A 22-year veteran with the Clover Park School District, Irma Brown has been selected as teacher of the Month by the Rotary Club of Lakewood for the school district.
Brown is a first grade teacher in Lakewood’s Park Lodge Elementary School, according to Deanna Keller, school principal.
In addition to her classroom duties, Brown also serves her fellow teachers as the school’s representative with the CP Education Association. Taking her role very seriously, she says “teachers, administration and certificated staff must continually advocate for the students and find ways to assist parents in becoming team members throughout the educational process.”
Principal Keller pointed out that when it “became necessary to switch her from a second to first grade class after the school year started, she accepted the change with professionalism and as a model for all teachers in our building.
Bruce Folmer, band teacher in the Steilacoom Historical School District, has been selected by the Rotary Club of Lakewood as its Educator of the Month from that district.
For nearly three decades Folmer has taught students band music, the last 11 of those years in the Steilacoom district. A dedicated teacher, Folmer has built outstanding band programs in both the high school and middle school. The evidence of his success with his students has been their second invitation in as many years to perform at two venues in Disneyland during May.
In nominating Folmer for the recognition by the Lakewood Rotary Club, Steilacoom High School Principal Jan McKrimmon noted that Folmer has an”endless amount of energy. He is highly motivated and the community looks forward to concerts put on by his students.”
Lakewood Rotary Club President Greg Rediske pointed out that the 130-member club recognizes a teacher and a student monthly from the Steilacoom and Clover Park School Districts.
The club meets Friday noons at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club and features a speaker on a wide variety of topics at each meeting.
