At 2:17 am March 28 Lakewood Fire responded to a report of power lines down at the Walgreen’s 9505 Bridgeport Way. Firefighters arrived to find sparking and flames coming from lines outside the store. Firefighters quickly evacuated the building and contacted the power company to shut down the electricity.
Firefighters then began attacking the small fire on some combustibles outside the store when they heard the interior fire alarm sounding. Firefighters investigated and found fire inside the store which was extinguished by the sprinkler system. Once the power company arrived and the electricity was shut off, firefighters extinguished the fire on the exterior, made access to the interior for smoke removal and “mop up” then went back into service.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Damages were estimated at $100,000, but this number would have been much higher without the automatic fire sprinkler system.
