FORT LEWIS, Wash. – A memorial ceremony for Staff Sergeant Charles D. Allen will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, at 4:30 p.m. at the Main Post Chapel.
Allen, 28, an emergency care sergeant who served with 296th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (SBCT), will be remembered by friends, soldiers and the Fort Lewis community.
The Department of Defense announced that SSG Allen of Wasilla, Alaska died Jan. 4 in Baghdad, Iraq of injuries suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat
Allen joined the Army in 1995 and was then assigned to Ft. Lewis, Wash. in Feb. 2006.
Allen’s awards and decorations are many and include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon,Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Allen receives a promotion to Staff Sergeant posthumously.
