The Region 5 Hazard Mitigation Planning Team is holding public information meetings to discuss the Region 5 Hazard Mitigation Plan. There are a total of 48 jurisdictions involved in this planning effort. This public information meeting is for the following jurisdictions involved in the planning effort:
- City of Dupont
- City of Lakewood
- Steilacoom Historical School District
- University Place School District
- Lakewood Water District
- Lakeview Light and Power
- Lakewood Fire District (#2)
- Anderson Island Fire District (#27)
These jurisdictions are cooperating in an effort to develop a plan that contains measures to mitigate vulnerabilities to the impacts of hazards such as earthquakes, floods, severe storms, droughts, volcanoes, tsunamis and landslides.
The proposed measures cover a broad range of categories including, but not limited to, protecting life and property, ensuring emergency services, preserving natural resources, and increasing public preparedness for natural hazards that affect the area.
The effectiveness of the plan relies on public involvement and comment. The meeting will be held Monday, January 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Steilacoom School (in theater) located at 54 Sentinel Drive in Steilacoom.
