Shown are some of the guests at the December Tea Party at Pioneer Middle School in Steilacoom.
The Holiday Tearoom opened for a short, but brisk, season on Dec. 12. The festively decorated tearoom (aka the Pioneer Middle School Cafeteria), was the setting for the traditional December 6th grade Tea that’s part of the students’ Canadian curriculum. Mrs. Nancy Anderson’s class were the first to use the tearoom on Tuesday morning.
Two other 6th grade classes were scheduled to enjoy Tea on Dec. 13 & 14. The 6th Grade Tea is a 15+ year custom.
While tea traditionally is served at 4 p.m.-this Tea was held from 8:45-9:45 a.m. Some where in the world, someone observed, “It was 4 p.m.”
Girls attired in fancy dresses, and guys in shirts and ties, circled the buffet table several times to load their plates with scones, cucumber/cream cheese sandwiches, muffins and more. Moms and Dads were guests of honor at the gathering.
There was plenty of tea, too.
Riley, who drank tea for the “first time,” said he enjoyed the raspberry tea. Matthew, whose family drinks tea “every day,” chose green tea. One-of-a-kind student created, illustrated placemats, featuring different aspects of Canadian history, were a focal point of the morning event.
